Who are we?

Our Origins

The Forum jeunesse de l'île de Montréal (FJIM) is the result of a consultation between close to 300 participants from various youth organizations which took place during a Regional Youth Event on January 21st and 22nd, 2000. Together, participants proceeded to elect representatives to form the administrative body of the Forum jeunesse. They also took advantage of this occasion to identify several development priorities in the areas of employment, education, health, housing, social services, legal action, the arts, recreation and culture, the well-being of adolescents and accessing and influencing decision-making bodies. Since 2000, the Forum’s Regional Youth Event takes place annually and gives the organization the opportunity to provide a report on its activities, bring together youth organizations, inform its members and partners and also get informed on the realities and challenges facing young Montrealers. The Event helps to define which actions will be undertaken in the upcoming year and also allows for participants to elect representatives to the interests of Montreal youth.

Our Mission

The Forum jeunesse de l’île de Montréal (FJIM) is a consultative body of Concertation Montréal representing over 300 youth groups in the region. Its 17 elected members come from the education, socioeconomic, social and community, diversity, work and employability, life's quality, arts and culture, environmental and sports and leisure activities’ fields. The organization focuses on defending the interests and rights of youth between the ages of 12 and 30. The Forum jeunesse is a non-partisan group.

Our Role or Duties

  • Bringing together youth and youth groups from across the Island of Montréal;
  • Act as a consultative body on youth issues;
  • Promote and defend the interests of youth via regional and municipal decision making bodies;
  • Initiates and coordinates youth development projects such as : Outiller la relève artistique, Prends ta place and Électeurs en herbe.

Our Core Values

Through its publications, projects, activities, representation and investments, the Forum jeunesse’s objective is to create a place and a voice for young Montrealers to improve their quality of life. More precisely, the Forum jeunesse defends the declaration « Le Montréal de ma génération» (A Montreal for my Generation), adopted by nearly 200 representatives of youth organisations during the Regional Youth Event in 2004. This declaration helped in determining the priorities of the Political Action Program for 2005-2010 during the Regional Youth Event of 2005. Thanks to investments and the partnerships developed through various consultative settings, the Youth Forum is enthusiastic and feels confident that significant and far-reaching projects will develop to respond to the priority needs of Montréal’s youth population.
